Enhancing Maritime Surveillance with Advanced Imaging Technology

Enhancing Maritime Surveillance with Advanced Imaging Technology

Xenics, a leading brand from Exosens, continues to push the boundaries of innovation in surveillance technologies — both day and night.

We’re excited to contribute to the MARISPEC research project, aimed at enhancing maritime security. In collaboration with InViLab.UAntwerp (University of Antwerp) and DroneMatrix (drone systems), we’re developing a state-of-the-art imaging system optimized for challenging weather conditions, day-night operation and SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power) - tailored for resilient drone platforms.

The MARISPEC project focuses on integrating multi-wavelength camera systems:

  • Visible (standard optical)
  • SWIR (Short-Wave Infrared)
  • LWIR (Long-Wave Infrared)
  • Night Vision (NV)

While each imaging mode has limitations on its own, multimodal combination of wavelengths significantly enhances detection and monitoring in maritime environments. LWIR and NV are particularly promising for mission-critical night-time operations.

Our LWIR Dione series is an ideal camera basis for drone integration, offering flexibility in lens/interface configuration and post-processing — all within a SWaP-optimized design.

As for Night Vision, this is a new but rapidly evolving area for Xenics. Thanks to our place within the Exosens, we’re leveraging deep night vision expertise to develop a new digital night vision camera operating in the optical wavelength range. Building on the industry benchmark set by Photonis intensifier tubes, the platform will deliver:

  • Enhanced sensitivity in ultra-low light
  • Extended spectral range
  • Superior situational awareness

This cutting-edge innovation ensures operators retain a decisive advantage, even in the most demanding maritime scenarios.

The MARISPEC project is funded by DEFRA, part of the BELSPO and Royal Higher Institute for Defence (KHID) collaborative research program.

We’re honored to pave the way for a safer maritime future through our cutting-edge imaging technologies!
